Flags and feelings
Dannebrog turns 800 in 2019, and we mark this with a special exhibition that involves more than the history of the flag. The exhibition can be seen from March 23rd.
Most people react emotionally to Denmark’s national flag, the Dannebrog, and the flag is often associated with both pride and joy.
But the Dannebrog can also make people angry.
It is not everyone who proudly flaunts the Dannebrog when abroad.
What feelings are associated with Denmark’s national flag, and do the people of Esbjerg feel about the flag today?
Using both historical and contemporary examples from both the local area and the rest of the country, the exhibition looks at why the flag and feelings are inextricably linked.
